this is a good book for basic troubleshooting technique for charging and starting systems .good coverage of voltage drops ,continuity checks, dvom symbols . It covers basic lighting and dash instrumentation as well. However this book is virtually devoid of the wiring schematics that I encountered on the ASEA6 test I took yesterday.The test is 75% wiring schematics of various complex circuits. I have 20 years or so of automotive service in which I have encountered quite a few wiring difficulties but even with this experience and these study guides I found it to be a very tough test. I did pass the test but with a lower score than the other tests I’ve used these books for. Don’t get me wrong Delmar puts out a quality product but this book is obviously flawed in the wiring diagram section of the test. on my a5 and a7 test I missed only a couple of questions on each test but this test was a mindbender with 90 minutes to answer 60 questions which are just about all tricky schematics.

This test prep book is ok, but may leave some people with false confidence. I took the ASE A6 and passed the exam. This book was helpful in the fact that it gets you prepared for ASE style questions, but the real ASE A6 exam is NO WHERE NEAR similar to the practice exams.

I had heard or read several things along the way in preparing for this test, so here are some facts that applied to my situation. I had been told that the real exam was 75%-80% schematics. Keep in mind the A6 is 60 questions long. 10 questions are considered "research" questions and do not count toward your final score (however, you are unaware of which 10 questions those are). Out of the 60 questions on the A6 exam, I encoutered 36 questions that included a wiring schematic or a diagram of some type. That ends up being 60% of the test. Also, for those of you that do not care for the technician A, technician B questions, I had 13 Tech A/B questions, or about 22% of the test.

The Delmar test prep has very few questions with wiring diagrams / schematics. If you find reading a schematic difficult, or don’t understand how a circuit works in a wiring diagram, I suggest that you spend A LOT of time figuring that out before taking the actual A6.

I have also read the Motor Age / Delmar test prep debates. I purchased both A6 study guides, and both lacked the amount of wiring diagrams I feel should be included in sample questions.

In conclusion, I hope this helps someone before taking the A6. The test prep book gets you in the right mindset of electrical theory & diagnosis, but if you can’t apply it to a circuit or schematic drawing, you may find the A6 test difficult

This book is worth every penny and more. I am studying for the ASE A6 Electrical examination. Electrical is my weakest auto technician area and this book is stuffed with questions and answered. I am sure I’ll see a lot of them on the test, or at least almost the same as in the book. Most importantly I know what they are looking for in an answer. It also has a cross reference to the test study areas of the exam. I’m going to buy the who series ! I’m a tough rater, but this is 5 STARS !
